SANTOS, Bruna Francinetti Menezes Castro dos  e  CERVENY, Ceneide Maria de Oliveira. First name repetition: family and cultural bonds. Vínculo [online]. 2013, vol.10, n.1, pp. 29-37. ISSN 1806-2490.

The choice of the name of a person brings in itself expectations, myths and beliefs that are present in the preconscious family group of which he or she belongs. This study aimed to understand the repetition of the first name taking into consideration conceptions of family loyalty and differentiation. The search is characterized as a qualitative research and it involves delineation of a case study. The participants were a father and a son who own the first name in common and belong to a family in which seven people have the same first name over five generations. It was used a semi - structured interview and the construction of the genogram and of the family coat of arms as instruments for data collection. The results pointed to the remarkable presence of the loyalty to themselves and the strong ties to the cultural roots. Furthermore, loyalty was noted among crucial subjects, those who are considered relatives, even though there are no consanguineous ties, and the origin family, as they want to turn their first names into surnames.
