The loss of a loved one is an experience that mobilizes intense emotional pain, potentiated by unconscious fantasies of those who experience it. The bereaved person believes that their good objects have been lost and that the bad objects have become dominant. This puts the internal world in imminent danger of disintegrating. Resolution occurs when the subject is able to restore his or her love bond with the object through reparation. This study aims to analyze the psychic components at stake in the grieving process experienced after the suicide of a loved one from Melanie Klein’s psychoanalytic theory point of view. To this end, we investigate the bereavement of a fictional character, the protagonist of a Japanese animated film that deals with the various stages of mourning. With the support of family and friends, the acceptance of the loss of the loved one was gradually established in the internal world, allowing the character to acquire more confidence in his constructive tendencies. The film shows how the experience of mourning by suicide, as challenging as it may be, can be healthily elaborated, resulting in ego strengthening and emotional growth for the survivors.
