Abstract

The formation of segmented knowledge, held within compartments and limited to a single discipline, usually leads to closed perceptions on specific objectivity aimimg at the understanding of phenomena placed within the scope of complexity, as are those of nature and society. The meaning of system presents itself as a critical element to the concept that has majored throughout history of science, according to which knowledge of parts or basic elements from each phenomenon should be enough to understand the building context of vital processes. © Ciências & Cognição 2004; Vol. 01: 29-33.
