The present work aimed to study the representations of the work developed by the traders of the Public Market of Casa Amarela - Recife - PE. The employed methodology was a study of case, based on data search, interviews, and local observations, as well as on the confection of field notes. Initially we studied the concept of the quotidian, to establish this question as the major object of this study. By the way, the different aspects of the work during the history were also investigated their representation in the contemporary. Finally, the information obtained by interviews with de trades of Public Marked was analyzed under a popular context of theirs representations about the work. © Ciências & Cognição 2004; Vol. 03: 10-20
