Abstract

Besides the current use in hormone replacement therapy, steroids are important targets in drugs abuse, where they are used a long time by athletics. Recently, in the last decades, the use of steroids was much expanded among young people. For a good understanding of this work, it's necessary, at first, to explain what anabolics are, and which ones of them are the most used. After that, we will approach the effects of this substances on the users, especially the psychological ones, like muscle dysmorphia, for example. It's very important to get more information in order to alert people that the indiscriminate use of anabolics can produce serious diseases, damaging the mind and the body. © Ciências & Cognição 2005; Vol. 05: 64-91.
