Abstract

BONIATTI, Edina  and  BIDARRA, Jorge. The destiny of the words: the lexical ambiguity in the text interpretation. Ciênc. cogn. [online]. 2005, vol.6, n.1, pp. 02-10. ISSN 1806-5821.

For the present discussion, we start from the premise that the lexical selection performed by the author when constructing a text is of great importance for himself and especially to the reader, when trying interpret the text. Studies about lexical semantic can't be slighting when searching attribute significance and meaning for a linguistic object. Starting from this perspective, taking as reference the poem Nu, by Manuel Bandeira, we will discuss the lexical ambiguity phenomenon observed in the adjective nu and the way how the different meanings that it assumes in the text interfere in the whole comprehension of the poem. Besides the classical ambiguity, traditionally worked as homonym and polysemy, we bring here too, to argue, the metaphor as a crucial element in the creative process of the author and, accordingly, reader's interpretative when referring to the poem Nu. © Ciências & Cognição 2005; Vol. 06: 02-11.
