With the intention to analyze the use of the "ecology" as a metaphor, the meanings of this term are argued and some statements of two theoretical epitomes are compared: one of Ecology (Odum, 1985) and another one that proposes the ecology of the human development (Bronfenbrenner, 1996). From an interdisciplinary bibliographical review, with the aid of electronic citation databases, some advances were suggested for this psychological understanding. © Ciências & Cognição 2005; Vol. 06: 51-66.
