Abstract

ALEXSANDRO TELES DA SILVEIRA, Ronie; KUCKARTZ PERGHER, Giovani  and  GRASSI-OLIVEIRA, Rodrigo. Language and thought: (supra) communicative vision concerning the language. Ciênc. cogn. [online]. 2005, vol.6, n.1, pp. 73-83. ISSN 1806-5821.

This article has as goal argues the different perspectives adopted in literature concerning the relations between thought and language. This discussion has as background the priority notion: the thought is previous to the language or the language is previous to the thought? Two points of view are proposals to answer this question. One of them, called "communicative vision concerning language" (VCAL) considers the priority of the thought in relation to the language. The other one call "supra-communicative vision concerning language" (VSAL), claims that development of thought is posterior to language. The available empirical evidences do not allow that such hypotheses are refuted in definitive. Additionally, the answer to the priority question seems to depend on the dimension under analysis, being disabled absolute sustentation of a hypothesis in detriment of the other. © Ciências & Cognição 2005; Vol. 06: 73-83.
