VIEIRA, Valéria  and  BIANCONI, M. Lucia. The significance of the National Museum of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro for the non-formal science education. Ciênc. cogn. [online]. 2007, vol.11, pp. 21-36. ISSN 1806-5821.

Abstract Non-formal education is a well-organized activity outside the formal educational system with well defined learning objectives. In this work, we analyzed how the school visitation of groups of students from the second portion of the Elementary School (5th to 8th grades) occurs on the National Museum of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where the development of non-formal classes of Sciences is possible. Although the teachers recognize the National Museum as an important educational center, most of them do not exploit the place in a proper way since they do not develop well organized visits with their students. The students, on the other way, do not understand the purposes of the visitation and are always very anxious with the possibility of being graded through reports or exams. . Therefore, the students do not interact with the place that should allow a pleasant way of gathering scientific information.
