OLIVEIRA, Evaldo Araújo de  and  BARROS, Vicente Pereira de. From plausible to probable: a short historical essay. Ciênc. cogn. [online]. 2007, vol.11, pp. 184-191. ISSN 1806-5821.

Abstract In this paper we present a brief essay on the development of the concept of probabilities, emphasizing its subjective nature. We present links between the contributions of Philosophers and Mathematicians in the elaboration of the pertinent concepts of the theory of the probabilities and statistics. We understand that the search of the question that motivated these people to lean over this subject, in other words ``How works the human reasoning?``, helps to get better understand on the concept of probability as is presented in almost courses of graduation in science (Biology, Physics, Chemistry, ...) of our universities, as well as handling it (to apply). © Ciências & Cognição 2007; Vol. 11: 184-191.
