Abstract

POLATO GOMES, Henrique José  and  DE OLIVEIRA, Odisséa Boaventura. Epistemological obstacles in science teaching: a study about their influences on the atom conceptions. Ciênc. cogn. [online]. 2007, vol.12, pp. 96-109. ISSN 1806-5821.

Some strategies used by teachers to make a subject more attractive or easier, actually can be a serious impediment to the learning of the scientific concepts. Metaphors and analogies used in the explanation can result in a satisfactory explanation, and consequently, in a lack of interest for the phenomenon. Bachelard called those subterfuges epistemological obstacles, and the objective of this paper were identify them in students at the last level of elementary school and at the first level of high school, in atomistic teaching, and compare them, considering they learned that through different materials. Thus, 291 questionnaires asking about atom conceptions and a drawing of it were applied and they show an evident existence of those obstacles. © Ciências & Cognição 2007; Vol. 12: ??-??.
