DE OLIVEIRA PATARO, Cristina Satiê. Thinking, beliefs and human complexity. Ciênc. cogn. [online]. 2007, vol.12, pp. 134-149. ISSN 1806-5821.

Considering the complexity of mental and psychic functioning, this article discusses the relations between beliefs and human thinking. It assumes that processes of human thinking involve not only cognition but also suffers the influence of other aspects such as affective or cultural (beliefs). The article presents the results of a research that studied the possible influences of beliefs in human thinking. A questionnaire was applied to four groups (Catholics, Adventists, Spiritualists and academic students without considering the religious tendency), a total of 100 persons. The questions are concerning human sexuality themes; it was asked the personal positioning and subject's religion positioning. Results indicated the influence of beliefs and, simultaneously, the influence of other factors in human thinking, that indicate the complexity of mental functioning and of relations between culture and subject. © Ciências & Cognição 2007; Vol. 12: ??-??.
