A gerontological literature review aimed to explore the healthy ageing emphasizing the contributive factors for the maintenance of a life quality. Among the factors researched, life style is considered as an important promoter of social-emotional stimuli that improve the cognitive functioning The conclusion suggests that life style may be used as a health indicator and it should earn careful attention when the objective is to promote or prevent health in senescence. © Ciências & Cognição 2007; Vol. 12: ??-??.
