Abstract

BARBOSA, Naymme et al. The expressiveness of the university teacher as cognitive factor in the teach-learning. Ciênc. cogn. [online]. 2009, vol.14, n.1, pp. 75-102. ISSN 1806-5821.

This work reports on study about the expressiveness of the teacher. The specific aim of the analysis reported here was to investigate the verbal and non-verbal resources used by thirteen university teachers from the "Instituto de Ciências Biológicas da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais". The methodology was oriented by a combination of quantitative and qualitative approaches and the verbal resources were accessed through an acoustic analysis and verbal fluency. The non verbal resources were accessed through a test about facial expression recognition, and filming. The data give evidence of a possible relation between expressiveness and both a high academic experience and a more dialogic and innovative approach to teaching. The emotions can interfere in the aspect disfluency, pitch e loudness and non-verbal resources. Nevertheless, they also point to the need of further studies relying on larger samples and, chiefly, on the observation of teaching practices in the classroom context

Keywords : expressiveness; verbal communication; non-verbal communication; professional development of teachers; interaction.
