FRANCISCO JUNIOR, Wilmo Ernesto. Analogies in chemistry textbooks: a study about the books approved by the National Plan of Textbooks for High School Students 2007. Ciênc. cogn. [online]. 2009, vol.14, n.1, pp. 121-143. ISSN 1806-5821.

The analogies appear on diverse situations in daily lives and frequently configure an attempt to explain or understand the unknown by mean of the known. Analogies are commonly used by science textbooks, mainly to teach abstract concepts. Besides, with the new federal public policies, the influence of this material should be higher due its distribution to high school students. Taking this into account, this paper presents an analysis of the analogies presented by chemistry textbooks approved by Plano Nacional do Livro Didático Para o Ensino Médio - PNLEM 2007 (National Plan of Textbooks for High School Students). After textbooks´ reading, 154 analogies were identified. These analogies were classified according to proposes adapted from studies presents in the literature. This work also discusses appointments concerned to the adequate use of analogies in the texts and in the classroom, as well as aspects related to the teachers´ role. The results indicated that the most of the analogies is unfavorable to the learning
