The emphasis on the relationship between science and society has led increasingly, the recovery of an educational approach that connects content to specific political, economic and cultural aspects. The professional on education must be committed to the transformation of working methods, as well as the formation of the citizen. Accordingly, the curriculum is a process of shared educational and cultural production. This is a theoretical research, included in the descriptive methodology, with a qualitative approach, aiming to interpret the official documents related to the technical progress of automotive technical course at the Federal Center of Technological Education -CEFET/RJ with a focus on environmental issues. The objective was to examine, qualitatively, the influences of environmental issues of the curriculum of the professionals of the course concerned. The research also aims at answering the question: How environmental issues in the high-school level of automotive technical course CEFET / RJ are being dealt with. It was then brought up a hypothesis for such work: the environmental issues contribute positively to the training of more holistic professionals of the analyzed course. The formal curriculum of the automotive technical course at CEFET / RJ has been analyzed and the results indicate that, nowadays, it would be unacceptable to consider the training of professionals in the automotive area without the concern of a key issue for the twenty-first century: the scientific and economic development with social and environmental sustainability
