TORISU, Edmilson Minoru  y  FERREIRA, Ana Cristina. The social cognitive theory and the mathematic teaching-learning process: considerations on the self-efficacy beliefs in mathematics. Ciênc. cogn. [online]. 2009, vol.14, n.3, pp.168-177. ISSN 1806-5821.

The aim of this essay is to comment, briefly, the Social Cognitive Theory, developed by Albert Bandura and discuss the role of self-efficacy construct in the school, specifically in mathematics discipline. The self-efficacy beliefs are the basis of the motivation of an individual and relate to the self the same about their own potential. From this idea, we are led to believe that allowing students the development of self-efficacy beliefs more robust and friendly may lead them to greater motivation in the performance of school tasks. The literature indicates that students who develop self-efficacy beliefs stronger will spend longer and with more commitment to a task, taking more chances to achieve success. Whereas the subject Mathematics is regarded by many as the most difficult among those of the school curriculum, become important studies to investigate the influence of self-efficacy beliefs, to indicate paths and strategies that lead to better performance of students
