Abstract

UEHARA, Emmy  and  LANDEIRA-FERNANDEZA, Jesus. An overview on the development of working memory and its losses in school learning. Ciênc. cogn. [online]. 2010, vol.15, n.2, pp. 31-41. ISSN 1806-5821.

Abstract Working memory is a memory system responsible for temporary storage and simultaneous processing of information be it the environment or the long-term memory. Its operation is closely related to complex cognitive tasks, including language comprehension, reasoning and problem solving. Gradually, each component is developed, reaching full maturity only in early adulthood. The investigation of working memory can aid in the construction of new instruments capable of assessing each component of memory. Finally, disturbances in the functioning of working memory may be associated with specific problems in learning, such as difficulty in reading, writing and solving mathematics problems. Thus, the present study was designed as a literature revie. on the most significant milestones in the development o. working memory and its losses in the most relevan. school context. © Cien.
