FERREIRA, Wasney de Almeida. The syntactic and semantic structures of persecution delirium and reference in paranoid schizophrenia: a case study. Ciênc. cogn. [online]. 2010, vol.15, n.2, pp. 228-238. ISSN 1806-5821.

Abstract The goal of this project was to analyze the speech of a patient with delusional paranoid schizophrenia; in order to identify the syntactic structure and semantics of delusions of persecution and reference, which are characteristic of this subtype of schizophrenia. Given that language reflects, at least in part, the structure and functioning of the conceptual system this made it possible to map the participant's delusional speech, which was then recorded and transcribed for analysis corpus. Using this transcription as the basis for cognitive theories of metaphor and conceptual blending it was possible to not only understand the reference and delusions of persecution but identify specific auditory hallucinations and delusional interpretations. The speech, despite not having been found impaired in syntactic structure (the relationship between subject, verb and complement) led us to identify an applicant semantic ambiguity in the processes of identification. These findings, in this first instance, appear to be characteristic of paranoid schizophrenia, since this subtype of schizophrenia has less involvement of personality and intelligence. © Cien.
