In our work with textbooks of physics teaching, when we discuss the use of images in science relationship with the phenomena it represents and with the concepts that aims to materialize, we have as reference the notion of informational synthesis. Discuss the status of images in the context of the textbook implies considering that there is a communication process developed by a group of social actors who construct images about a specific scientific information and that it requires from the reader a production of meaning in the process of developing knowledge. Our corpus are the Physics textbooks. We present the analysis of images in five textbooks, respectively, of the years 1910, 1920-1930, 1958, 1976, 2007. We observe that the variation in the practices of physics teaching is accompanied by variations in the images and the explanation of concepts and phenomena, but some forms remain, constituting the social memory of teaching physics. © Cien.
