PRESTES, Daniela Bosquerolli; WEISS, Silvio  e  OLIVEIRA ARAUJO, Julio César. Influence of equine therapy on motor development and self-perception of schoolchildren with learning disability. Ciênc. cogn. [online]. 2010, vol.15, n.3, pp. 192-203. ISSN 1806-5821.

The purpose of the descriptive study of double-case, with kids from fourth grade, was to investigate the benefits of equine therapy on the motor development and perception of students with learning difficulties. For evaluation we used the Scale of Motor Development Scale and the Self-Perception Profile for Children. The sessions occurred twice a week for three months. In the first assessment, participants were delayed in all areas of motor development and in different domains of self-esteem. After intervention, the subject A has progressed in all the motor areas. The fine motor skills and body scheme amounted to 132 months, higher than expected for age. The subject B has evolved into five areas, and the higher deficit before the intervention, spatial organization, increased by 48 months. The overall motor quotient of the subject A has increased from "Very Low" to "Normal Medium" and the subject B of "Lower" to "Normal Low.. Self-perception, the subject A has evolved in the areas of Behavior and Global Surplus Value and the subject B, School Competence and Behavior. It is believed that this effect is due to equine therapy environment. We suggest further studies in the area for school improvement and development of children. © Cien.
