PEREIRA, Kariston; PAVANATI, Iandra  and  PERASSI LUIZ DE SOUSA, Richard. The relationship between knowledge and creativity:: evidence from research into the Game of Chess. Ciênc. cogn. [online]. 2011, vol.16, n.1, pp. 099-111. ISSN 1806-5821.

Abstract The connection between knowledge and creativity is a subject studied by the creative process cognitive approach, standing out two currents: the "foundation view", which considers the grasp of specialized knowledge as a factor in promoting creativity, and the "tension view", which defends that there is a limit in the amount of necessary knowledge to the creativity. The contradiction between the two currents raises the traditional question of "dogmatism" in relation to established knowledge. Thus, when a dogmatic posture is adopted, under the "Einstellung effect," creative alternatives are not considered to the knowledge already established as valid. It can be considered, therefore, the hypothesis that the knowledge doesn't impede the creativity, serving, besides, to promote it, since it is not treated in a dogmatic way. This can be exemplified in the context of the game of chess, that as the science and the technology, it is based in an objectified knowledge. The chess is a phenomenon very studied in the cognitive science, having a wide amount of formalized knowledge about it. It is a game of intensive knowledge, in which the success depends on the creativity, presenting itself as research field about the cooperative relationship between creativity and knowledge, what is interesting also for other domains, including the scientific one. © Cien.
