Abstract

FERRONATO CORREA DA SILVA, Rochele; DE OLIVEIRA CARDOSO, Caroline  and  PAZ FONSECA, Rochele. Schooling in attentional processing assessed by cancellation tests: A systematic review. Ciênc. cogn. [online]. 2011, vol.16, n.1, pp. 180-192. ISSN 1806-5821.

Abstract Studies in cognitive neuropsychology have shown increasing interest in the role of sociodemographic and cultural factors in cognitive processing, with special emphasis on education. This article aims to present a systematic review of empirical studies that directly or indirectly investigated the role of the education sociodemographic variable in the performance measured by a cancellation test. Abstracts were searched in the databases PubMed, PsycINFO, ISI Web of Knowledge and Scopus, seeking abstracts of articles published between 2000 to 2009, with the keywords: "cancellation task AND education"; "cancellation test AND education"; "cancellation task AND schooling"; "cancellation test AND schooling". Among 143 abstracts initially found, six included the role of schooling in healthy population, and 10 studies analyzed clinical populations, while the most common disorders examined are neurodegenerative ones. Data indicate that schooling, and especially the quality of the education years, tend to influence performance on tasks of visual cancellation. © Cien. Cogn. 2011; Vol. 16 (1): 180-192.
