Resumen

FILGUEIRAS, Alberto et al. Psychometric characteristics of the Portable Tactual Performance Test (P-TPT) in blind individuals. Ciênc. cogn. [online]. 2012, vol.17, n.1, pp. 83-93. ISSN 1806-5821.

One of the fundamental basis for psychological assessment in blind individuals is the haptic perception. However, Brazil lacks instruments that use the tactile sensorial input modality for cognitive abilities measurement. The Portable Tactual Performance Test (P-TPT) uses the children tactile system to evaluate her sensory-motor lateralization and abilities, spatial localization, cerebral interconnection of information between the two brain hemispheres and comparison of the psychomotor capability. In order to analyze if this instrument will be effective for the proposed measurement in the Brazilian reality, we assessed a sample of 32 congenital visually impaired children from Benjamin Constant Institute in Rio de Janeiro. We analyzed the collected data based in the principles of Classical Tests Theory (CTT) under the Psychometrical parameters established in the literature. We used two different methods of analyses: Exploratory Factorial Analysis (EFA), and test's homogeneity through Cronbach's Alpha Coefficient. Results of EFA revealed 4 different factors corresponding to the number of the test's tasks. Items remained inside their respective factors, showing good factorial load varying between 0,41 and 0,92. As for the test's homogeneity, the Cronbach's Alfa coefficients remained higher than 0,90 which suggests good structural consistency. By these results, we discussed the psychometric characteristics of P-TPT and evaluated if the test will have value in the Psychological Assessment of blind children from Brazil. © Cien.
