^lpt^aEste trabalho procura mostrar que a teoria da significação de Jakob von Uexküll é implicitamente uma teoria pragmática. Como teoria pragmática, ela coincide com alguns aspectos da crítica da filosofia analítica à noção de representação mental ao longo do Século XX, por exemplo, entre autores como Austin, Ryle e Wittgenstein, desde o pragmatismo de Charles S. Peirce e William James. De modo similar, a teoria de Uexküll coincide com aspectos da crítica de Francisco Varela à noção de representação nas ciências cognitivas e sua ideia de 'trabalhar sem representação'. E, finalmente, procuro indicar uma possível alternativa não-representacionista nas ciências cognitivas, assim como uma alternativa de tratar o problema da 'lacuna explicativa' (explanatory gap). © Cien. As pragmatic theory of meaning it seems to coincide with some aspects of the critics of the analytical philosophy to notion of mental representation during the 20^th century, for example, among authors like Austin, Ryle and Wittgenstein since from the pragmatism of Charles S. Peirce and William James. Similarly, Uexküll's theory of meaning coincides with some aspects of Francisco Varela's critic to the notion of representation in cognitive sciences and his idea of 'working without representation'. And finally I seek to indicate an eventual non-representational alternative to the cognitive sciences, as well as an alternative of dealing with the problem of the explanatory gap. © Cien.
