Abstract

APARECIDA VOLANTE ZANON, Dulcimeire  and  TEIXEIRA MACHADO, Adriana. The vision of the scientist quotidian portrayed by beginners undergraduates in chemistry teacher education. Ciênc. cogn. [online]. 2013, vol.18, n.1, pp.46-56. ISSN 1806-5821.

Abstract This research aims at seeking a comparatist view of how the beginner undergraduate chemistry student sees the representation of a scientist in contrast with other similar studies carried out in fundamental and secondary education. The students enrolled in a pedagogy subject offered by a chemistry teacher education course in a Sao Paulo state university were asked to portray a scientist through captioned drawings. These drawings have been sorted according to similar characteristics and, then, they were quantified in order to determine the frequency in which some scientist behaviours were shown. The captions written by the students were also analysed. The use of stereotyped images of the scientist, like the ones commonly found in means of communication, could be noticed, similarly to the ones found in primary and secondary education students' depictions. © Cien.
