Nowadays, many cities do not have mental health services because they do not attend to the help criteria the Ministry of Health requires for their implementation. In this context, the example of Gouveia, a city in Minas Gerais, Brazil, can be mentioned, which created an alternative care device to attend to its demand: the Healthy Mind Project. This article aims to present project interventions in relation to improvements in users’ quality of life. Oral history was the methodology. The Healthy Mind Project contributed to the improvement of patients’ quality of life and demonstrated the possibility to create care devices for mental patients for cities that do not attend to government requirements.
