The importance of matrix support in basic mental health actions stands out. In an interior city of São Paulo state, matrix support was implanted for two family health teams. The experience of the psychiatric nurse in this team is reported, aimed at helping the general nurse in care delivery to mentally ill patients. When reflecting on this experience, greater solving of cases was inferred and less stigma with regard to the approach of the mentally ill. The project needs further maturing with a view to future research on the results of this project.
