Abstract

SANTOS, Larissa Forni dos; SANTOS, Manoel Antônio dos  and  OLIVEIRA, Érika Arantes de. The listening in the psychotherapy of adolescents: the different voices of silence. SMAD, Rev. Eletrônica Saúde Mental Álcool Drog. (Ed. port.) [online]. 2008, vol.4, n.2, pp. 00-00. ISSN 1806-6976.

For a long time, in psychoanalytic practice, the silence of the patient was considered as a way of resistance. This study aims to discuss the silence and its different meanings inside the psychoanalytic relation with adolescent patients. These reflections were supported by the analysis of a clinical case in an educational Psychology service. The importance of the therapist is emphasized to identify the non-verbal channels of communication established in each therapeutic session, which may be equally or more important than the patient’s verbalizations.

Keywords : Adolescent psychology; Psychotherapy; Resistance; Psychoanalysis.
