Abstract

BARBARO, Alessandra Marino et al. Work- related mental disorders: a literature review. SMAD, Rev. Eletrônica Saúde Mental Álcool Drog. (Ed. port.) [online]. 2009, vol.5, n.2, pp. 1-16. ISSN 1806-6976.

The study aimed to investigate work-related Mental Disorders (MD), their characteristics and which groups of workers most commonly present the disorder. A survey was performed in Brazilian and Latin American health literature on the theme, in the Scientific Electronic Library Online. Descriptors from the Virtual Health Library were used and inclusion and exclusion criteria were established. Ten articles were analyzed, which evidenced that MD can be related both to work and its absence. Inadequate work environments, the way activities are organized, low valuation of workers, unsatisfactory participation in decisions, among other factors, favor the occurrence of MD. The occurrence of MD to teachers, health workers, ironworkers, adults, women and housewives was evidenced. Research with other groups of workers is important.
