Abstract

This work was aimed at discussing the contributions of Gestalt Therapy in oncological patient care. Cancer is a disease commonly associated with death, in which the quality of life may depend on the stage of the disease, and treatment characteristics of internal mechanisms that the patient may have to the confrontation and perception of illness. It is a theoretical research, exploratory purposes, raised from the literature review conducted on the subject. It was noted the importance of this approach to Psycho-Oncology in understanding how this phenomenon is experienced because the perception of cancer by subject is based on their constructions, in their relationships with themselves and each other. The psychologist that accompany search referential bases mean and intervene in structuring the process of illness, in order to promote ressignificação, using to this end, an attentive listening to what emerges to consciousness, in his facticidade, in order to grasp the significance of the experiences lived by the patient, allowing a Dialogic meeting can take place through the presence and genuine acceptance of another.
