Abstract

ZAMPRONHA, Maria Amélia Güllnitz. Contact experience according to Psychology students and the use of Internet.. IGT rede [online]. 2013, vol.10, n.19, pp. 01-21. ISSN 1807-2526.

This article discusses a research called "The Psychology students' experience of relationship and Internet use" (Zampronha, 2012) form the Gestalt-therapy point of view which, we believe, brings interesting contributions. The research's object of study is Psychology students' relationship experience. The objective is to verify the correlation between said experience and Internet use regarding three aspects, here defined as analytical categories: prejudice, technological rationality and narcissism. The method consists of a Questionaire about Internet use habits and a Likert scale, called Experience with others Scale (E Scale) and the statistical analysis of the data. The E Scale is divided in three subscales, prejudice, technological rationality and narcissism, and evaluates the subjects' attitudes and opinions regarding the three analytical categories, understanding that said categories may permeate and interfere in the experience with others and in the experience of self-consciousness. A high score in the E Scale indicates impairment of the spontaneous experience. The subjects are 72 Psychology students of a private college in São Paulo. The hypothesis predicted: a strong correlation between Internet use and attitudes manifested in the relationship with others; use more related to communication and solution to immediate problems than to information; and the more frequent this use, higher the E Scale's score. It was verified that the subjects tend to express more prejudice and adherence to technological rationality than narcissism and that there is correlation between Internet use and the manifestation of the three categories.
