Abstract

BELMINO, Marcus Cézar de Borba. Paul Goodman and the Project of the book Gestalt Therapy. IGT rede [online]. 2014, vol.11, n.20, pp. 120-142. ISSN 1807-2526.

This article aims to present the main ideas of the book Gestalt Therapy: Excitement and growth in the Human Personality. The book published in 1951 marks the founding of Gestalt therapy, as well as presents the theoretical proposals written by writer and political critic Paul Goodman (described in the second volume of the book). Goodman reexamines psychoanalytic theories and neo-psychoanalytic from phenomenology and pragmatism presenting a new anthropology as well as another way of conceiving psychology. Thus, Goodman presents a new theory of the self and its implications for thinking about the field of psychotherapy and also an gestaltic ethic that can be replicated also in education and politics. Hopefully this article will contribute to the growth of the gestalt approach, as well as emphasize the relevance of Goodman as an essential author to the development of this approach.

Keywords : Gestalt-Therapy; Paul Goodman; ego psychology; psychotherapy.
