Abstract

LIMA, Leonardo Pereira de. Psychotherapy for psychotherapists: luxury, obligation or necessity?. IGT rede [online]. 2016, vol.13, n.24, pp. 60-84. ISSN 1807-2526.

This work was motivated by the testimonies of situations in which the attitudes and behaviors of some psychoterapists caused discontent, discomfort and even astonishment, as well as from the observation of gaps in the training processes of psychotherapists. The performed literature review indicated that whilst some papers address the fundamental pillars of the of the psychotherapist formation, the psychotherapy for psychotherapists remains less discussed. The psychotherapy was pointed as an opportunity to work through personal issues; as a space for reducing the impact of the clinical routine; as a source of continued self-knowledge development and as a tool for practical understanding and implementing of the fundamental prerogatives supporting the work of the gestalt therapist. This study aims to promote more emphatic discussions of the subject, causing the encouragement of psychotherapy for psychoterapists as an indispensable tool to both training and proper professional performance.

Keywords : Psychotherapy; Psychotherapist; Gestalt; Formation of the Psychologist.
