Abstract

This article brings a reflection and a contribution the field of psychology and related areas about the mourning process, taking base as a Gestalt perspective. The used methodology was a literature review, through a bibliographic exploratory study about the thematic mourning and gestalt therapy, like: Bowlby (1985), Worden (1998), Parkes (1998) , Freitas (2000), D'Assumpção (2001), Franco (2002) and Fukumitsu (2004) and Gestalt therapy: Perls, Hefferline and Goodman (1997), Yontef (1998), Polster and Polster (2001) and Fonseca (1998, 2003). From the discussion of the ideas of the authors, the article shows meanings and senses attributed the mourning process, in addition to the biopsychosocial factors that influence the elaboration. The bereaved needs works your pain of loss, contacting it, wielding it, so that the experience can be assimilated to the self.
