Abstract

This article aims to present results of study on the relationship between torture and suicide from the Gestalt perspective. We use for it the case of Friar Tito contextualizing the period experienced by Friar Tito during the dictatorship in Brazil, focusing on the torture's psychological impacts. We also seek to analyze, through his writings what happened to him, trying to understand what drove him to suicide. We address the issues of torture and suicide in Friar Tito, from the perspective of Gestalt Therapy. Our methodological approach was based on the bibliographical research, through which we analyze the biographies of Friar Tito, his own writings and the narrations of his friends, and the psychoanalytical analysis of the mental state of the Friar.
