Abstract

CARVALHO, Marianne Lima de  and  LIMA, Deyseane Maria Araujo. A Anorexia em Adolescentes Sob a Ótica da Gestalt-terapia: The anorexia in adolescents from the perspective of Gestalt therapy. IGT rede [online]. 2017, vol.14, n.26, pp. 23-30. ISSN 1807-2526.

The purpose of this desk study was to evaluate anorexia in adolescents from the perspective of Gestalt therapy. Initially, the challenges of adolescence are described, with emphasis on the historical origins of this developmental stage, according to the socio-historical approach. Gestalt therapy has been shown to help adolescents with this condition through methods and experiments like ‘the rose tree' and ‘quick play', among others highlighted in the study. Information was retrieved from books, journals, scientific publications and theses. As shown in the literature, anorexia in adolescents is a common health concern worldwide. Our findings confirm the relevance of Gestalt therapy for anorexic adolescents. As a holistic approach, Gestalt therapy considers the whole being; not just speech, but bodily communication of meaning through posture, microgestures, breathing, voice, look and other aspects. During the sessions, the patient is made aware of such actions, favoring the occurrence of insights. Gestalt therapy offers a unique means to treat anorexic adolescents based on the perception of the condition in a wider context and of the subject as being-in-the-world. It is hoped our results will serve as subsidy for further studies in the field and on the use of Gestalt therapy to treat other eating and non-eating disorders
