PERES, Manuela Bogéa  e  HOLANDA, Adriano Furtado. The notion of anguish in clinical practice: relations between Kierkegaard's thought and Gestalt-therapy. Estud. pesqui. psicol. [online]. 2003, vol.3, n.2, pp. 97-118. ISSN 1808-4281.

The aim of this paper is to establish relations between Sören Kierkegaard's thought and Gestalt-Therapy, taking the notion of anguish as its reference. Anguish is understood as an essentially human phenomenon that reveals the person in their relation with the world. Gestalt-Therapy's comprehension of the human being is compatible with the ones presented by the Philosophies of Existence, which implies a return to the lived experience. Therefore, it is here taken as a psychotherapeutic approach in which anguish may be understood in its complexity, in a relational view. Some of Kierkegaard's notions are related to Gestalt-Therapy's proposition of psychotherapy, both where they converge and/or diverge. Due to the scarce specific literature on anguish in Gestalt-Therapy, it is this work's task to foment the discussion about the understanding and coping with anguish in this psychotherapeutic approach, as well as to contribute to the perspective of giving philosophical foundation to Gestalt-Therapy, under the ground of Philosophies of Existence.

Palavras-chave : Anguish; gestalt-therapy; Kierkegaard; psychotherapy.
