This text presents how the recent theoretical approach of Urie Bronfenbrenner can contribute to the studies with children and families. It considers the importance of a clear and consistent connection between theory and method to accomplish trustworthy data research in natural contexts. The article points to some aspects that need to be considered in studies with families and children in different natural contexts. The ecological and systemic theory of Bronfenbrenner presents possibilities to analyze aspects of the person in development, of the context where it lives and of the interactive processes that influence human development itself, in determined periods of time.
