“Contemporary Urban Space and Subjectivity: a special focus on the slums of Rio de Janeiro” has been developed on the Program of Pos-graduation in Social Psychology of the UERJ since may 2005. It aims to analyse the history and the characteristics of the differentiation and the socioespacial segregation, developed in the city of Rio de Janeiro, as well as the production of social and territorial stigma, comparing general theories with the peculiar reality of the city. Further, the impacts of public politics, such as the “Programa Favela-Bairro, on the population are evaluated, and also the conflicts resulting from the attempt of integrating the slums to the formal quarters of the city. The present work - proceeding in the interface of Psychology and Social Sciences - aims at adding to the understanding of the production of subjectivity of the contemporary urban man.
