Abstract

MARIANO, Maria do Socorro Sales  and  MUNIZ, Hélder Pordeus. Teaching staff's work and health: the case of study of teachers from the second stage of fundamental school. Estud. pesqui. psicol. [online]. 2006, vol.6, n.1, pp. 76-88. ISSN 1808-4281.

This paper has the aim of analysing the relationship between mental health and work of the teachers of the second stage of the fundamental level of the public education of the city of João Pessoa- Paraíba (PB). The theoretical contributions of work psychodynamics were used, proposing the analysis of dynamics of psychic processes through the confrontation of the subject with the work reality, objectivizing a space of discussion that priviledged the intersubjectivity of the subjects in the construction of meanings for work. The analysis makes different types of psychic suffering experienced by the teachers stand out, in the confrontation of disfavourable situations of their activity. On the other hand, the teachers develop strategies of facing these problems that diminish the suffering and favour the transformation of anguish into strength that propels changes; the presence of collective work, the development of teaching rules and the recognition by the students constitute as possibilities of construction of health and pleasure in these teachers’ work.
