It considers the formal and the informal uses of these public spaces while this last one assumes special meaning. They can represent the needs and the wishes of communities and offer rich contribution for urban planning. The paper also demonstrates differences between public and private spaces adopted according to the use they encompass. It deals with aspects of urban violence in affecting or not human relationships within these spaces. To derive some conclusions, the study sets a debate about the concept of social-spatial development as supporting the activities of different groups of people involved in the construction, maintenance and use of such space
