This article presents a review of the literature on relative questions to autonomy by the light of the ecological systemic approach, aiming to understand some factors involved with the process of the development of this construction. The proposal of this study was to examine in the literature the concept of autonomy in the adolescence and to identify possible relations between the variables to be considered in the educative process. We start from the principle that the way of thinking and the way of acting are built in the relation with the social economical and cultural context where the individual is developed. It was concluded that we can not understand and explain the development of the autonomy without considering the environment where the process was made.
