Abstract

TASSARA, Eda Terezinha de Oliveira  and  RABINOVICH, Elaine Pedreira. Movimentos migratórios na metrópole de São Paulo no século XXI: um estudo quali-quantitativo1Migration movements in the SãoPaulo metropolitan area in the 21st century: a qualitative and quantitative study. Estud. pesqui. psicol. [online]. 2007, vol.7, n.3, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1808-4281.

This research aims to characterize the figure(s) of the Brazilian migrants in which their arrival point was the city of São Paulo. The study is based on the strategic capacity analysis of incorporation, adaptation and satisfaction. 110 migrants were interviewed in the center area of São Paulo about: national and intra-urban fluxes; characteristics and profiles; forms and timing of permanence; support networks; motifs and expectations. The collected information was organized in semantic categories system and in a cluster system analysis. Results indicate the differentiation of the migrants in two groups related to age and dreams as to their feeling or not feeling satisfaction about living in the city. Adaptation and satisfaction degrees seem to depend on compatibility of identity models that define qualities and levels of aspiration. This compatibility would be an expression of the migrant’s strategic capacity to transform accessible elements of material and non material conditions to channel their actions in order to realize their goals
