Abstract

VILHENA, Junia de  and  PINHEIRO, Nadja. Neither private, nor public: psychoalytic clinic at hospitals. Estud. pesqui. psicol. [online]. 2008, vol.8, n.1. ISSN 1808-4281.

The primary purpose of the article is to promote a reflection concerning psychoanalytic services developed in general hospitals. According to the authors, such environment reproduces the interpenetration of public and private spheres that is a characteristic of contemporary societies. The authors propose as strategy, the abandonment of the private clinic as a model to be implanted in such contexts in order to detach the specificity of the emerging clinical field in general hospitals. Taking Foucault´s work concerning total institutions they point out for the aspects of discipline as means of control of space, time and movement, as well as the specificity of such clinic: the visibility, transitivity and a complex field regarding transference. Winnicott´s framework is presented as a possible clinical alternative in such contexts, mainly through his concepts of potential space and holding.

Keywords : Psychoanalytic clinic; General hospital; Public and private spheres.
