The objective of this article is to analyze pertinent   contributions of the Neurosciences to the study of the relationship between affect and cognition.  Through a selection of a   few clinical and experimental studies that investigates the mind-brain relationship, especially those that point out to functional dissociations in patients with cerebral damages, we intend to discuss the brain systems that are involved with certain emotional and cognitive processes. In a complementary way, we also present a few animal experimental investigations that are developed in the field of the Neurosciences. The studies that we present here, in spite of their theoretical and methodological diversity, seem to emphasize the importance of the emotions and the affects to the regulation of the human cognition.
