MARINI, Janete Aparecida da Silva  and  JOLY, Maria Cristina Rodrigues Azevedo. The reading in the high school and the metacognitive strategies use. Estud. pesqui. psicol. [online]. 2008, vol.8, n.2, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1808-4281.

The present study aimed to identify the frequency of metacognitive strategies usage of students in the high school for reading and verify the influence of the variables age, genere, grade, type of school and period frequented. 641 students took part in the study, coming from public to private schools, aging from 14 to 17 years. The instrument used was the Escala de Estratégias Metacognitivas de Leitura (Metacognitive reading strategies scale). The analyses of the results showed that the problem solving strategies were the most used (M = 15,38; DP = 4,78) among the subjects. The students themselves revealed to use more metacognitive reading strategies during read (M =26,81; DP =7,91). It was also verified that the female students use more the strategies (M = 41,12 e DP = 11,28) than the male ones (M = 34,12 e DP = 10,83). Differences related to age, type of school, grade and period frequented were noticed too.
