The aim of the study was to assess Primary Health Care patients’ beliefs on alcohol use prevention done by physicians, and to investigate the social acceptance of alcohol use behavior. The instruments used were a structured interview and AUDIT. The sample comprises 371 patients. The physician questioned 42,6% of the respondents about alcohol use, 60,1% about tobacco, and 24,5% about other drugs. The preventive practices, the belief “dependents are weak and lack will power”, and whether the behavior tolerance to alcohol use related behaviors were associated with some social-demographic variables.  The least tolerated behavior was to consume ilicit drugs and the most accepted behavior was to visit pubs frequently. The research outcome disclosed that prevention has not been performed evenly, and that beliefs and behaviors were associated with specifics social-demographic variables. This outcomes might be useful for the elaboration of preventive practices and public polices to improve health services.
