Abstract

This article intends to present some theoretical considerations concerning the Post Partum depression in order to show health professionals, notably psychologists, the psychological suffering of women during their reproductive phase. To understand depression in its puerperal stage, psychic suffering was focused on initially, suggesting modern malaise, a reactive disturbance widely identified in various human profiles. Then, the female depression was analyzed after the birth of a baby, including its main symptoms and associated factors, the indication of its prevalence and the instruments for the diagnosis of this psycho-affective malaise. Finally, the repercussion of psychological pain in family life and of the importance of the knowledge of health professionals concerning the present theme beyond the biological boundaries was approached.
