Abstract

MOREIRA, Jacqueline de Oliveira. Revisiting the concept of ego in Freud’s writing: from identity to alterity. Estud. pesqui. psicol. [online]. 2009, vol.9, n.1, pp. 0-0. ISSN 1808-4281.

This paper aims to be a critical review of freudian writings about the presence of the other in the process of construction of the “ego”. Freud's On Narcissism: An Introduction (1914) presents itself as a condition of possibility for the development of our reflexion. We will try to entail freudian changes when they come to the "theory of the eu". We will start our discussion with the concept of “ego” as a subjective place, supposedly free from conflict, and as a device of reality capable of containing and channeling the unblocked energy flow; then we will recognize “ego” as something constituted and determined by the different figures of alterity. The ”ego” must be conceived as a result of a complex overdetermination that involves not only the unconscious and the Id, but also the subjective place.

Keywords : Eu; Identity; Alterity.
